Animals: Training

The character can train domestic and wild animals, and even monsters (although the lore Mythology: Monsters is required in this case).

A trainer can only work with 1 animal at a time per level of expertise. If the animal has an intelligence of 1 (normal animal intelligence), basic tricks can be taught. If the animal possesses a higher intelligence, then it can become a loyal companion and defender.

The roll is done at the end of the period of training. If it fails, more training is required and the training period is doubled. A second failure means the animal cannot be trained by this person (and a penalty of -10 will take effect if someone else tries).

The length of the training period varies. For domestic animal, it is between 1 to 2 months. For wild animals, from 4 to 16 months, and for monsters, 1 to 4 years.

It is always preferable to train an animal from birth or as young as possible. With intelligent creatures, bad treatment can easily result in the animal turning on the trainer. Intelligent creatures are also more likely to want to take vengeance on their trainer.
