Classes
Classes represent archetypal roles for player characters (PCs) in Arvelas. Classes define a character's primary focus, including combat style and magical abilities. They provide structured guidance for progression while allowing customization through XU distribution.
Classes determine starting and levelling bonuses for Health Points (HP), Magic Points (MP), skills, fighting techniques, and spells. They influence how a character develops over time but do not permanently restrict access to higher-tier classes.
Access to Advanced and Elite classes requires meeting both the minimum level requirement for the tier and the defined trait thresholds. Foundations influence growth and bonuses but are not prerequisites for higher-tier classes. Epic classes are governed by trait requirements and narrative conditions rather than fixed level thresholds.
Each class falls into one of four tiers:
- Foundations (Levels 1–7) – Core disciplines that establish a PC’s initial combat style, magical inclination, and growth tendencies. Foundations provide starting bonuses and shape early progression. A character may change their Foundation, though doing so alters future growth benefits.
- Advanced Classes (Levels 8–15) – Specialized roles unlocked by reaching Level 8 and meeting specific trait thresholds. Advanced classes grant defining abilities, expanded talents, and enhanced resource development.
- Elite Classes (Levels 16+) – High-level specializations unlocked by reaching Level 16 and meeting significant trait thresholds. Elite classes represent mastery of a discipline and provide signature abilities that define a character’s legendary capabilities.
- Epic Classes (Story-Limited) – Rare and exceptional roles within the narrative structure of the campaign and the world of Arvelas. Epic classes require meeting defined trait thresholds and completing a trial or story-driven test determined by the Game Master. Access to these classes is subject to world-state considerations.
Class selection influences a PC’s role within a party, access to abilities, and long-term development. Advancement through tiers requires meeting the necessary level and trait thresholds, while Epic classes additionally require narrative approval and in-game achievement.
